Touch typing uses all fingers on the keyboard - without looking at
the keyboard. And if you thought that fast, accurate keyboard skills
disappeared with the typewriter, think again: although so-called "hunt
and peck" two fingered typing is usually the norm today, the ability to
touch type can save up to 10 hours per week. Speedier and more accurate
typing enables more efficient search for information on the web,
enhanced emailing and Instant Messageing (IM) correspondence and more accurate data
input. However the benefits extend beyond time saving by encouraging
improved posture and reduction from risk of RSI and neck strain by
using the keyboard in a more ergonomic manner.
The qualification is simple to follow as students learn at their own
pace. Each
student has three attempts at the final test which is graded at three
levels: bronze: 20 words per minute; silver: 40 words per minute and
gold: 60 words per minute. Student then receive a BCS certificate
showing achieved speed which can be shown as part of a prospective job
application.
